St. John’s Prep seeks two (2) chemistry teachers for grades 9 through 12 for the 2020-2021 school year. The Science Department offers a program that allows students “to participate directly in the process of science by learning to frame scientific questions, analyze data, and discuss and interpret results. Structured to encourage growth, the courses meet students where they are, providing them the space and structure to mature academically and find their own meaning in scientific discovery. Experiences as emerging scientists challenge students to become responsible, active, and positive voices. The program provides students with the tools to creatively and intelligently shape a healthier and more sustainable world.” (St. John’s Prep website). A complete listing of science courses and their descriptions can be found here.
Science teachers at St. John’s Preparatory School teach five (5) classes and are required to complete a “duty” period during each semester. Prospective candidates should have the competency and passion to engage every student in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum. Candidates should also have a desire to become an active and collegial member of an adult community of learners.
All members of the faculty are expected to give witness to the mission of St. John’s, as well as to our identity as an inclusive, Catholic, Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School. In addition to classroom teaching responsibilities, St. John’s encourages all members of the faculty to be involved in the life of the school beyond the classroom. The school offers a wide range of co-curricular, intramural and interscholastic programs.
