St. Mark’s School of Texas is seeking a creative and energetic Middle School Drama teacher beginning in the 2020-21 school year. Strong candidates will possess a talent for teaching creative dramatics, the fundamentals of acting, and preparing lessons that build a theatrical ensemble. The most competitive candidates will have experience in interactive and engaging teaching methods such as drama games, role-playing, storytelling, and tableaux. He or she should be experienced in working with both scripted material and devising theater.
Candidates should possess the skills to direct small-scale middle school productions, develop scripts for play-writing, as a well as demonstrate strong improvisation techniques. In addition to experience teaching and directing actors, candidates should also have experience and skills in the technical teacher realm. He or she should have experience in stagecraft, lighting design, sound design, props or costume design. The teacher will also serve as an advisor to a small group of students during the year.

Successful candidates will have interest in making contributions to this aspect of our program and will place equal priority on the character and intellectual development of our students.

Experience / Qualifications & Skills
A Bachelor’s degree is required, aMaster’s degree is preferred
Five or more years teaching experience at the middle schoolor high school level preferred; independent school experience is a plus
Professional or regional performance experienceacting, directing, or designing
Passion for theatre, musical theatre, and the performing arts
Experience that contributes to the co-curricular program such as coaching or outdoor
Knowledge of varied teaching strategies to differentiate learning
Passion and patience for working with middle school children
