Duties and Responsibilities
The duties below are typically performed by an employee in this classification. However, an employee may not be assigned all duties or may be assigned other related duties not listed.
Foster a religious spirit in accordance with the philosophy of Mount de Sales Academy.
To work in conjunction with the Principal to set the direction for student activities, virtue formation, and leadership development.
To work with the Director of Operations and the Principal to assure the safety, welfare, and care of faculty, staff and students through safety procedures such as fire drills, lock downs, etc.
Identifies resources and opportunities that support ongoing student development and that enrich their education.
Assists Principal with new faculty and staff orientation.
To participate in the development of good school-community relationships.
To help interview candidates for teaching and staff positions and makes recommendations to the Principal.
To assist the Principal in conducting regular performance evaluations of staff under his or her direct supervision.
8.5. To assist with faculty observations.
To oversee disciplinary processes and judgements, consulting with the Principal and other appropriate personnel when necessary.
To oversee implementing and revising a Technology Policy for the Academy.
To coordinate and oversee ongoing revisions of the student handbook for the Academy.
To facilitate proactive communication between teachers, students and parents and work with the guidance department to ensure student success. Set meetings with parents when students are experiencing challenges or difficulties with attendance, chronic illness and or disciplinary issues.
To meet with students to discuss discipline, attendance, and or illness.
To participate in the Admissions Committee selection process.
To assist with the technology guidance seminars.
To oversee spiritual opportunities for the students.
To support and encourage the student body.
To work in conjunction with the VP of Academic Affairs to build the school calendar for the following academic year, assuring that the calendar meets the needs of the academic curriculum, while incorporating the student activities and enrichment programs that are offered by Mount de Sales.
To assure fair and Christian discipline throughout the school so that quality teaching and learning may take place.
To work in conjunction with the Technology Executive committee and task force to plan and implement use of technology in the school that is in keeping with the mission of Mount de Sales.
To oversee that Campus Ministry, and Student Life are functioning in accord with the philosophy and mission of Mount de Sales.
Work with the Principal and Vice President of Academics to plan and execute Baccalaureate Mass, Honors Assembly and Graduation.
ACTIVITY AND STUDENT DEVELOPMENT
To provide opportunities for student orientation, ongoing leadership development and spiritual growth for the student body.
To promote character development and virtue formation through the various aspects of student life within and outside the school.
To assist in the integration of Catholic philosophical and social principles throughout all areas of Student Life.
To oversee student recognition such as anchor awards, highlights sent to be published on the web, athletic awards, announcements, etc.
To assist in planning and conducting regular faculty meetings as well as providing opportunities for faculty input in matters of agenda and in-service opportunities.
To be available to faculty and students for consultation.
Serves as a leader to faculty and staff in character and formation of students.
MANAGEMENT AND RECORD KEEPING
To oversee the scheduling of events.
To help publish rules, regulations, schedules, and school procedures to be consistent in expectations regarding them.
To keep school files organized and in a professional manner.
To be responsible for overseeing that accurate and up-to-date cumulative, attendance, health and other appropriate records are kept on all students.
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
To work with the Director of Academic Services and other personnel to alert parents to the special needs and/or problems of their daughters.
To keep parents informed through regular newsletters, monthly calendars and other bulletins.
To cooperate and help promote the various programs existing in the Academy and in the local community.
To work with the Public Relations Coordinator to provide information to highlight faculty, students, and or events for press, website or publications.
To provide opportunities for Parent/Teacher conference, parent meetings and other activities regarded necessary for the building up of the Mount de Sales family.
To maintain a collaborative relationship with Mount St. Joseph High School.
Skills/Attributes • Strong working knowledge and appreciation of the history and traditions of Mount de Sales. • Maintain collaborative relationships with the faculty and staff and students of the Academy. • Exhibit knowledge of a Catholic philosophy of education • Show respect and fairness in dealing with others. • Commitment to the mission and vision of Catholic education in general and Mount de Sales in particular. • Excellent organizational skills and ability to coordinate, prioritize and analyze several ongoing projects simultaneously. • Ability to work in a kind, professional, collegial and fair manner with the faculty and staff, students and parents maintaining discretion, confidentiality. • Punctuality and adherence to schedules. • Ability to remain calm and focused amid multiple demands. • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with solid knowledge of Church teaching and doctrine. • Exhibits a positive, visible presence; assumes leadership in the absence of the Principal, in support of the Vice Principal of Academics. • Possesses strong interpersonal, oral and written skills with the ability to interface with parents, students, fellow teachers, professionals from other schools, and the general public. • Works collaboratively with the Principal and the Vice Principal of Student Affairs in setting the religious and educational direction of the Academy. • Responsibilities may require working evenings and weekends as necessary. • Can manage conflict successfully and will work proactively with students and parents in finding solutions to their questions and difficulties. • Ability to learn new software and assess its ability to integrate with Admin+. • Has a working knowledge of MS Office Suite, Edline and /or Administrator Plus (or similar educational online system) or the willingness to learn these systems. Possesses general technology skills and leadership in the area of integrating technology into the classroom. • Quantitative reasoning skills to assess accuracy of input and output of academic records and budgets.
Professional Qualifications • Catholic: Knowledge of Faith, Practicing Catholic • Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution. • Successful experience as a teacher/administrator of Catholic Schools. • Clear understanding of the role of Christian education within the mission of the Church.
