Context and Philosophy
Friends School of Baltimore has an opening for a Part-Time Lower School General Music Teacher to begin in August 2020. This teacher will instruct Lower School students (PK-K/P1) in the established curriculum. Students are taught general music using games, movement, percussion instruments, and storytelling. In addition to teaching general music classes, this teacher will facilitate two 30-minute concerts, yearly (Winter and Spring) with the Pre-Primary students. Of particular interest are candidates who have experience collaborating with colleagues, who will incorporate multi-sensory teaching techniques and has an understanding of the developmental needs of our students. We seek candidates who bring innovation to the classroom, can engage students through varied teaching methodologies, and have regular and effective communication with parents. Candidates may be asked to share materials that demonstrate these qualities during the interview. The Part-time Music Teacher works approximately 8.5 hours within our 10-day cycle schedule (4.25 hours per week). Candidates should be available to work Monday – Friday during various hours in our 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. workday. This position is for the 2020-21 school year.
Attend All-School Professional Days and team/department meetings
Help move the initiatives of the School forward by serving on committees and lending his/her/their expertise and voice
Collaborate with teachers in his/her/their Grade-team, within the division, and cross-divisionally.
Provide parents and administrators with written and oral reports that explain in detail how a child is progressing in the various areas of his/her/their educational experience.
Maintain a visually-attractive learning environment for the students, including maintaining bulletin boards in the classroom and hallways; and prepare substitute plans, in his/her/their absence
Commit to professional learning on culturally responsive teaching, mind/brain/education pedagogies, restorative practices, and racial justice training.
Bachelor's degree required; experience preferred
