The person holding this position is responsible for preparing curriculum and providing instruction in the specific department of assignment. For the 2020-21 academic year, we are recruiting for an instrumental music teacher with a focus on strings and orchestra instruction and piano accompaniment.
Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:
Teaching: Teaching individual or group instrumental music, e.g., strings ensemble, guitar, and possibly digital music; co-direct concert band; follow departmental guidelines and curriculum, conduct varied and frequent assessments of student performance, utilize appropriate technology in the classroom setting, keep attendance and grade records as required by school, writing individual grade and comment reports six times a year with additional progress reports as assigned; maintain regularly scheduled office hours for help sessions with students, attend faculty meetings and professional development opportunities provided by the school.
Communication: Communicating positively and proactively with students, advisers, parents, colleagues, and administration in a professional manner in both oral and written form.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The position requires a person who has experience teaching adolescents and enjoys working with and relates well to both adults and students, is collaborative, and communicates well. This faculty member needs to be organized as well as possess excellent written and oral communication and technology skills. The arts department member holds a full-time faculty position and carries out additional responsibilities such as residential and/or co-curricular assignments.
Bachelor’s degree in music from an accredited institution.
Proficiency in strings including cello, violin, viola, and guitar.
Ability to play piano and accompany instrumentalists as well as vocalists.
Ability to perform on at least one of the string instruments (violin, viola, ‘cello, bass) at a high artistic and musical level.
Experience with technology applications such as use of a MacBook Pro for teaching purposes. Knowledge of Google Suite preferred.
A valid driver’s license.
