Rocky Hill Country Day School, a private, independent day school for students in grades PK-12 located on the shores of Narragansett Bay in East Greenwich, RI, 20 minutes south of Providence, seeks a Department Chair and Upper School (9-12) Teacher for our History & Social Sciences Department, beginning in August 2020.
RHCD’s mission is to educate the whole child — mind, body, and spirit. Our educational approach recognizes that every student learns academic content when it is presented in a way that values their social and emotional development as well as their growth in the eight RHCD Student Competencies: navigation, citizenship, critical thinking, communication, innovation, ethics, global-mindedness, and self-awareness.
We seek a department leader who is an innovative and experienced teacher of history and/or social sciences, with mastery in modern and progressive pedagogies (e.g., project-based learning), and deep understanding of curriculum design. Candidates should be enthusiastic about contemporary, constructivist approaches to teaching history and social science. Experience as a department chair is preferred, but not required.
RHCD’s faculty also work as advisers, and are expected to contribute to the RHCD community by taking on one additional duty as part of their employment. Therefore, successful candidates must:
possess an innovative mindset
exhibit strong interpersonal and organizational skills,
demonstrate the ability to connect with students to develop healthy and supportive relationships,
collaborate easily and naturally with others, while also being self-directed, and
be willing to participate fully in Rocky Hill Country Day School’s community.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in history or a social science field, with a master’s degree preferred, and five or more years of teaching experience.
