Overview of Position
This position is for an elementary physical education teacher, beginning August 2020. This teacher will report to the Elementary Division Head and will work in close collaboration with teachers in kindergarten through fourth grade. This is a full time teaching position.
Teach kindergarten through 4th grade physical education classes in a developmentally appropriate, engaging way
Create lessons that instill the value of “fitness for life”
Support a curriculum that focuses on skills, health, and wellness rather than teaching of competitive sports
Create meaningful relationships and an inclusive classroom environment with students
Support the social and emotional development of students by collaborating and communicating regularly with classroom teachers in order to support individual student needs
Evaluate all students on progress reports at end of each semester
Coach at least one after-school interscholastic sport at the middle school level
Communicate effectively with parents
Co-lead a student ‘family’ group
Work collaboratively with the Athletics department to facilitate end of year Field Day and join department meetings occasionally
Participate in other school-wide activities throughout the year, such as committees, department and staff meetings, and occasional evening or weekend school events

Appreciation for and desire to work with TK-4 aged students
Demonstrated understanding of best practices in elementary physical education
Knowledge of the essential role social emotional literacy plays in the workplace and interest in application of SEL within the educational setting

Bachelor of Arts or Science degree and/or professional coursework or certification, indicating training applicable to the responsibilities of the position
In addition to required qualifications, desirable additional skills include:
Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, Master’s degree in education, or relevant coursework or certification indicating advanced knowledge in areas related to the responsibilities of the job
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent interpersonal skills
Organizational skills and the ability to multitask
Knowledge of educational technology to support teaching and learning
Understanding of differentiated learning techniques
Nuanced understanding of DEI/social justice knowledge from a personal or programmatic perspective
