The master teacher should bring energy and passion for teaching math to fifth grade students. He/she should utilize a balanced approach and strive to support the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of children. He/she should be innovative, forward-thinking, and growth-minded. Other responsibilities and necessary competencies include the following:
Provide classroom instruction that is student-centered and differentiated to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Maintain familiarity with current trends in math.
Attend math department meetings to ensure alignment with both the MS and the US.
Participate in the work of the department on curriculum development and create vertical alignment with fourth and sixth grades.
Collaborate and partner with students, parents, and colleagues positively and professionally.
Understand the development of fifth grade students and display a passion for working with this age group
Participate in other aspects of the School community (i.e. advising a student club, athletics, committees)
Have a sense of humor
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or Math, MS or MEd highly desirable; previous experience teaching math; experience in an independent school setting preferred.
The lower school is adopting a new math curriculum and implementing it in the 2020-2021 school year. Experience working with current curriculum is preferred.
