The Village Associate Teacher is responsible for supporting the lead teacher to plan and teach classes as assigned. This teacher uses student-centered, experiential, and differentiated methods in line with Chadwick’s philosophy. The primary goal of this model is to benefit children while supporting the growth of teachers.
Chadwick School’s associate model serves multiple purposes. The primary role of the associate teacher is to support and supervise students while working closely with the lead teacher. Secondly, this role serves to provide often less experienced teachers with hands-on professional experience working with a mentor teacher.
In K-3 classrooms, each classroom has a lead teacher and an associate teacher in order to provide additional individualized, differentiated instruction for younger children. As children become more independent, one associate teacher is shared between both classrooms in the fourth and fifth grades.
The specific responsibilities of associate teachers vary by grade level and teaching team.
Demonstrate an understanding of and interest in the developmental nuances of elementary school-aged children and anti-bias teaching practices
Model the Chadwick core values and help provide a joyful, inclusive school experience within and beyond the classroom
Teach whole class and small groups of children core curriculum as directed by the lead teacher.
Collaborate with grade-level team, division, and Curriculum Specialist to support lead teacher in the design of coherent, integrated curriculum that aligns with the Village program
Work with Curriculum Specialist and lead teacher to strengthen pedagogy and take advantage of professional development opportunities

About Chadwick School
Chadwick is a K-12 coeducational non-denominational independent day school located on a beautiful 45-acre campus on a hill overlooking mountains, canyons and the Pacific Ocean. Founded as a boarding school in the 1930's in what was then a remote area of Los Angeles County, the school has retained its rural charm and relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Thirty-three faculty and staff families reside on campus, adding to a strong sense of community and shared aspirations.
The school is dedicated to academic excellence and to the development of the character and individual gifts of its students. The school’s challenging academic offerings are therefore complemented by extensive programs in community service, outdoor education, athletics and the arts, in which virtually all students participate.
