The Langley School, a preschool through eighth grade coeducational day school in McLean, Virginia, seeks a collaborative, passionate, experienced, child-centered educator for a full-time faculty position in the Middle School teaching French beginning fall 2020. A successful candidate is someone who takes an innovative, instructional, and enthusiastic approach to learning and leadership. Langley’s French teacher should teach in the target language at least 90% of the time, and demonstrate a thorough knowledge and love of the French language, culture, curriculum, and current best practices. Additionally, Langley has devoted significant effort to defining its inquiry-based, student-centered approach to teaching and learning. As such, teachers at The Langley School are committed to the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of each child to create a nurturing and stimulating environment in which to learn.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to perform these core responsibilities:
Guide students in experiential language and cultural learning, including, but not limited to, field trips and community events.
Possess thorough knowledge and experience building curriculum and using comprehensible input strategies, TPRS, ACTFL proficiency standards, and authentic resources.
Explore and implement innovative use of technology in language education.
Work alongside grade-level teams to build cross-curricular connections and interdisciplinary projects.
Contribute to the life of the school by facilitating Middle School electives, assisting with duty coverage, and chaperoning at least one extended trip.
Possess strong communication skills and a patient and thorough understanding of early adolescence.
Demonstrate joyful enthusiasm, commitment to growth, flexibility, good humor, and team spirit.
Possess the ability to teach introductory Spanish for grades 5-8 (this skill is a bonus, but not a requirement).
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related area, three to five years of teaching experience or equivalent, excellent written and verbal communication skills, flexibility and enthusiasm to collaborate with colleagues, proven commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment, superior technical proficiency, and a passion for working with children of all ages required.
