Founded in 1999, Williamsburg Northside School (WNS) is co-ed private, independent school located in the culturally dynamic and diverse Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. WNS offers two distinct programs in neighboring locations serving preschool students and PK-8 students. Our middle school program is in its second year and currently services grades 5-7, adding on 8th grade in the 2020-21 school year.
WNS is seeking an experienced middle school social studies/history teacher. As a founding member of the middle school team this position requires interest in curriculum development and working collaboratively with the middle school team and school leadership to create a dynamic, interdisciplinary program.
Teach sections of middle school social studies/history
Teach daily advisory class and attend to additional school duties (ie, lunch, dismissal, etc)
Employ progressive pedagogy that provides students with opportunities for interdisciplinary project-based learning opportunities
Collaborate with faculty to develop integrated projects across disciplines
Communicate student progress clearly and effectively to students, parents and faculty
Provide innovative thinking and ideas to grow and develop the middle school program (ie, field trips, assembly, electives, etc.)
Experience teaching social studies, history or humanities, preferably in a middle school or upper elementary setting
Commitment to progressive education practices and hands-on, inquiry-based approach
B.A. in an appropriate content area required. Masters’ degree preferred
