Beacon Academy seeks to hire a dynamic and entrepreneurial upper school science teacher to join our experienced and innovative faculty for the 2020-21 school year.
Upper School Science Teacher
Beacon Academy seeks candidates for a full-time, biology and chemistry teacher. Excellent academic credentials, demonstrated distinction, and a strong record of, or interest in, designing innovative curriculum in one or more of the following disciplines is desired: biology, chemistry, and math. Willingness to supervise and engage peers and students in large-scale design or building projects is preferable. An orientation compatible with Beacon's commitment to Montessori educational practices and IB curriculum is essential.
The most desirable candidates will have the following background or comparable experience:
A master’s degree with a minimum of five years teaching high school science
An entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to interdisciplinary work
Ability to teach IB Science is preferred, not required
IB or Montessori experience
Experience with project-based teaching and collaborative learning
Works effectively with parents as a partner in the student’s education experience
Uses a variety of communication/teaching styles and methods
A proven willingness to experiment with different teaching strategies
A history of continued growth and development as an educator
A history of effective collaboration with colleagues
Holds students to a high and clearly articulated standard of performance
Has an interest and experience in interacting with students outside of the classroom in co-curricular activities: sports, arts, social service, etc.
