The Ivy Compass program is a core element of a Crofton House School education which reflects the importance we place on student self-knowledge, their understanding of their connection to others, their place in the community and world, and their role as environmental stewards.
The Assistant Director of the Senior School, Ivy Compass, provides strategic direction, leadership, and oversight on all aspects of student engagement in the Ivy Compass program, and is a member of the Senior School Leadership Team and the Whole School Learning Council. The Assistant Director provides leadership to the Assistant Coordinator Ivy and the Outdoor Education Coordinator, as well as working closely with the Heads of Grade to oversee the elements of the advisory programme that pertain to the Ivy Compass.
This is a unique opportunity for a dynamic individual to join our School at an exciting point in its history. Under the leadership of Ena Harrop, Head of School, who joined Crofton House in July 2019, we are undertaking a mid-point review of our strategic plan to ensure the School is ready to meet new challenges and seize new opportunities. This position would play a key role in contributing to this review and continuing to build on our success in educating young women.

Key Responsibilities for the Assistant Director, Ivy Compass
Be responsible for the development and implementation of the Ivy Compass and support the Program Assistant Coordinator and the Outdoor Education Program Coordinator) in all aspects of the Senior School’s Ivy Compass program including:
Creating opportunities for students in all four quadrants, North, South, East and West
Outdoor Education Excursions for Grades 8 to 12
Ivy Compass Days in Grade 8 and Grade 9
Supporting the Ivy Compass Prefect to develop her leadership and portfolio
Service learning and service trips
Environmental education opportunities
Evaluating the impact of the programme on an annual basis
Reporting to the Board as required by the Head of School
Provide leadership to the Heads of Grade in the development of the advisory program, in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Student Services
Collaborate with Junior School Ivy Compass Coordinator in the development and oversight of the scope and sequence of the Ivy Compass program from Grade 1 to 12
Be an active member of the Whole School Learning Council who, collectively, take responsibility for developing and delivering an intentional and coordinated educational program from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12 that is rooted in the school’s mission, vision and values and guided by a strategic plan
Be an active member of the Senior School Leadership Team and Administrative Assistants with the goal of developing and delivering an intentional and coordinated academic program for students in Grades 8 to 12, balancing curricular and co-curricular experiences
Contribute to whole school strategic planning
Provide mentorship, training, and support to teachers who are implementing the Ivy Compass program
Build relationships with parents through timely and responsive communication and availability
Be available to support and attend school-related events and meetings during evenings and on weekends
Any other responsibilities that the Head of School or the Director of Senior School may reasonably require depending on the candidate's strengths

Relevant university qualifications preferably at the graduate level (e.g. Bachelor of Education)
Prior experience in a school leadership role or evidence of significant leadership experience
Evidence of long-term engagement in a co-curricular program and understanding of its educational value
Experience and / or understanding of of experiential learning
Experience leading teachers in any capacity
Experience working with student leaders, an asset
Experience in an independent school, an asset
Understanding of risk management including mitigation strategies and crisis response
Knowledge of the learning styles of girls and young women
Creative, collaborative and dynamic
Committed to the craft of teaching, best practices, and standards of professional practice
