Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle is currently recruiting for a part-time French teacher for our Upper School starting with the 2020-2021 school year (beginning in mid- to late August 2020). At Lakeside School, we are focused on developing global citizens, educational excellence, and building a diverse and inclusive community.
Responsibilities The French Teacher position, reporting to the Upper School Language Department Head, will join a department that consists of 10 faculty members, teaching approximately 34 language sections each year (Latin, French, Spanish & Mandarin Chinese), with a maximum class size of 18 students per class.
Specific responsibilities include:
Teach two sections of French III. Teaching includes classroom instruction and assessment, with an emphasis on building oral proficiency, promoting students’ ability to read and write in the language, and exploring the culture and history of the French-speaking world;
Working with a diverse student body who come to school with different and evolving lived experiences and levels of preparation. This work includes providing academic support for students outside of class time (answering questions and one-on-one work, etc.), as needed to achieve equitable support and outcomes for all student;
Collaborate and participate in the Languages Department to develop innovative, equitable, and inclusive curricula, pedagogy and assessment strategies.
Attend department, language specific teams, and faculty meetings, and school community
Provide education on culturally relevant social emotional topics to students about the French speaking world.
Requirements and Qualifications
Successful candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in French (Masters preferred) or a related field.
Should possess native or near-native proficiency in both French and English (must be able to interact with colleagues, students and families proficiently in English).
Has experience teaching French in high school or middle-school to a diverse student body.
Teaches using communicative and task-based pedagogical practices.
The ideal candidate will have experience living in France or a French speaking country
Familiarity with be computers and internet resources, as well as an interest in technology integration in curriculum are essential.
Demonstrates cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives, and seek to learn about the diverse experiences, identities and backgrounds of our community.
Candidates must satisfactorily complete a nationwide criminal background check and a Washington State Patrol background check.
