Poly Prep seeks applicants for the position of MIDDLE SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching English and literature to this age group; exhibit a passion for teaching and learning; demonstrate enthusiasm for working with students, families, and colleagues; and have a record of professional growth and initiative. We seek an individual with a sense of humor who is both flexible and creative and works well under deadlines. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Teach four sections of eighth grade English
Lesson planning and preparation, classroom instruction, and assessment
Maintain an accurate electronic gradebook
Effectively and supportively communicate with students and families
Provide written and oral feedback on student progress consistently throughout the school year
Advise a group of students (approximately 7-10)
Advise a club or activity and supervise periodic study halls
Demonstrate energetic commitment to professional development
Attend and contribute to meetings during and after the school day, including but not limited to departmental, committee, divisional, and grade-level meetings
Accompany students on occasional curricular trips
Attend community events throughout the school year
Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field/discipline. Graduate degree preferred.
Experience: Three years of teaching experience in middle school English or a related subject.
Specific Skills: The position requires strong written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills; and familiarity with current educational technology.
