The Saint Thomas Choir School seeks a part-time Latin Teacher to begin September 2020. The Latin Teacher will teach 6th-8th grade Latin. Each grade level meets three times per week, totaling a weekly course load of nine classes for this teacher. At Saint Thomas, each teacher is a department of one, entrusted with substantial responsibility and flexibility to make curricular decisions. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching introductory levels of Latin, particularly emphasizing learning Latin grammatical structures, developing an appreciation for Roman history and culture, and building critical thinking skills. The Latin Teacher is also responsible for maintaining the curriculum for the Classics Department and collaborating with colleagues around school-wide academic initiatives.

Minimum Job Qualifications:
B.A. in Classics, or related field
Strong communication skills and love of working with children
Familiarity with current pedagogical best practices
3-5 years of teaching experience
Experience teaching middle school boys
Familiarity with Oxford Latin curriculum
Familiarity with boarding schools
Familiarity with current diversity, equity, and inclusion practices in independent schools
Experience tutoring or teaching test prep

Founded in 1919, the Saint Thomas Choir School houses, nurtures and educates the boy choristers of the Choir of Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, New York. Saint Thomas is an intentionally small boarding middle school for boys in grades 3-8. Our community is close-knit, and the program is both academically rigorous and musically enriching.
