Summary: This position is a full-time faculty appointment to teach four sections of high school English for the 2020-21 academic year. Other duties will include leading a major extracurricular responsibility, leading an advisory group of eight to ten students, and participating in the community life of Charles Wright Academy.
Collaborate with English department members to implement a curriculum that balances canonical with diverse and contemporary texts while maintaining a keen focus on the development of effective writing
Use a variety of instructional methods to create dynamic, engaging lessons that support the diversity of learners within the classroom
Impart enthusiasm for learning and inspire students to participate fully in the learning process
Foster the growth of students’ moral character
Provide and maintain a challenging, safe, and nurturing classroom environment
Practice respectful and effective classroom management techniques that support active learning and promote responsibility
Conduct appropriate, ongoing assessments of student growth and maintain timely records of assignments and performances
Communicate in a supportive, professional manner with students, parents and guardians, colleagues and administration
Serve as an advisor for 8-10 students
Attend all scheduled faculty and community meetings
Commit to participating fully in the life of the school
The successful candidate will have earned a bachelor’s degree in English or a related discipline; a master’s degree is preferred. Candidate’s experience should show evidence of successful teaching in either a public or independent school setting.
The candidate must have experience in dynamic, flexible pedagogical techniques. A strong background in American literature, writing, and research is preferred. A sense of humor, flexibility, ability to work cooperatively with peers, and a passion for working with adolescents is essential.
