Rowland Hall Middle School (grades 6-8) serves approximately 210 students and is focused on the academic, emotional, and social growth of students. The Middle School runs a 7-day rotating schedule with hour-long classes. All middle school teachers serve as grade level advisors and on grade-level teams with dedicated collaboration time set aside throughout the week to discuss students, curriculum, instructional practices, and professional growth. In recent years, the Middle School has focused on experiential learning with grade-level class trips and Winter Sports and has moved towards a more extensive grading system with Mission-Based Grading. The Middle School runs a 1-1 iPad program with Apple TVs in each classroom and teachers host their curriculum in Canvas. Moving forward, the Middle School will capitalize on the strong collaborative nature of the teachers to enhance the curriculum looking at interdisciplinary connections and having our students engage within the Salt Lake City community.
Collaboration and flexibility are key as this person is a member of the 7th-grade team as well as the middle school English department. The job entails planning and teaching dynamic, age-appropriate lessons in 7th grade as well as being a grade-level advisor. In addition to teaching and advising, there is an expectation to communicate regularly and proactively with students, their families, and colleagues while contributing positively to the overall school culture while fulfilling duties as assigned (recess and lunch supervision, field trip supervisor, etc) and serving on all-school committees as requested or desired.
