St. Paul Academy and Summit School seeks candidates for the position of Upper/Middle School Fitness Teacher.
Position Begins: mid-August 2020
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Department: Instructional Faculty, Middle and Upper School
The position of Upper/Middle School Fitness teacher is an on-going, full-time appointment. It includes teaching three sections of 9th-grade Fitness for Life, one section of 8th-grade Fitness, and the monitoring of open gym. In addition, the candidate hired for this position would be required to coach at least one season of an SPA sport -- with additional stipend -- with the hope the candidate would be open to coaching a second season sport for an additional stipend.
Our fitness classes are centered around topics and activities designed to promote the students’ physical and emotional health and well-being. Students explore various topics that help promote a healthy sense of self and positive approach to fitness, nutrition, and healthy habits. Construction and implementation of workout plans, knowledge and application of nutrition, as well as working towards personal health and fitness goals are a part of the required experience for each student.
The most successful candidates will approach their role as an advisor with a drive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are the goals. Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaboration and communication with both colleagues and students, is required. Candidates should support the mission of SPA, the vision of the Upper School, and be eager to join a professional community where openness to growth is the norm.
Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree in physical education or a related field and should have experience working with high school and/or middle school students as a teacher or coach.
