The Director of Information Management serves as the primary data manager for the Graduate School. The position is responsible for overall management of processes for the collection, organization, analysis, and dissemination of standard and ad-hoc reports, dashboards, and data related to graduate student services and fiscal operations in the Graduate School. The Director will independently and reliably develop or oversee the development of computer programs, applications, databases, data analyses, and visualizations to enable Graduate School leadership, University administration, and College/Department personnel to make informed decisions. Primary responsibilities include collection, validation, and reporting of graduate student data; coordination with university enrollment management and information technology departments in the development and maintenance of data infrastructures for the Graduate School; as well as data extraction, manipulation, analysis, and visualization and reporting of findings.
The Director will understand and maintain expertise in the content, format, and data definitions for university data sets – student and financial data and processes and their integration points and apply that knowledge to fulfill data requests in support of external reporting and internal planning and decision-making.
Specific Tasks/Responsibilities of the Director of Information Management include, but are not limited to the following:
Creating efficient management, reporting, and monitoring tools for ongoing policy decision analysis to further the strategic initiatives of graduate education at NC State University.
Providing Graduate School leadership, campus departments, colleges, and central offices with needed student and financial information for a variety of periodic and annual reports.
Overseeing reporting in compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements. Analyzing and interpreting large volumes of quantitative and qualitative information to continually assess the trends, effectiveness, efficiency, accuracy, and effects of The Graduate School and University policies, processes, and programs.
Evaluating Graduate School IT applications, data analytical tools and platforms for effectiveness in the delivery of graduate student services and data needs and develops strategies and recommendations for consideration by the stakeholders. Serving as a central resource between Graduate School functional areas and the central enrollment and technology departments to implement identified solutions.
Working collaboratively with Enterprise Application Services to sustain continued development of specialized systems related to graduate education within the Graduate School to address evolving trends and the needs of campus-wide and Graduate School users.
Developing project plans and deadlines for projects, monitoring progress to ensure timely completion of deliverables. Communicating changes to project plans and scope, along with changes in timeliness to stakeholders. Managing multiple projects and deliverables.
Utilizing developed expertise in multiple areas to facilitate clear and productive communication between the Graduate School business operations (financial, human resource, and information systems) and student services teams as well as campus graduate program personnel and university offices to successfully complete assigned projects.
Providing training to campus, as needed, on various Graduate School lead projects and initiatives.
Serving as content advisor for Graduate School website for dashboard and data related to graduate students.
Other projects and duties as assigned by supervisor.
Master's degree and at least one year of relevant experience; or Bachelor's degree with at least two years' of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.
- For management‐level roles, also include with the above requirements 1‐2 years of supervisory experience.
Four or more years of progressively more responsible experience.
Thorough understanding of data warehousing concepts/frameworks.
Proven ability to analyze and manage large complex data sets.
Ability to utilize a diversity of software packages, applications and automated systems for collecting and managing data.
Experience with data visualization (Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics) and/or other visual analytics tools and creating dashboards.
Excellent SAS programming and analysis skills.
Experience with enterprise data management systems such as PeopleSoft Suite of applications and related query and reporting tools.
Ability to assess software needs by purchasing commercial software or managing development of software in-house.
Ability to work in an inclusive and collaborative manner as part of a larger team to advance the goals and priorities of the Graduate School.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
Experience working with student data within a higher education setting.
Experience with Student Application Systems such as Technolutions Slate Application system.
Experience with PeopleSoft systems.
