About the School: ??Charles Wright Academy (CWA), located on a beautiful, wooded 107-acre campus, serves students in preschool through 12th grade. This is a .5 to .75 FTE faculty appointment for the 2020-21 academic year. The teacher will teach science to Lower School students once per week. This position could include early childhood/early elementary instruction only or instruction for all students PS-grade 5.
Implements a science curriculum which is appropriate to the grade and developmental level of the students.
Collaborates with homeroom teachers to develop science experiences that support grade-level curricula.
Provides a variety of learning opportunities, methods, and materials, with a strong emphasis on inquiry-based learning and hands-on experiences for the students.
Demonstrates enthusiasm for science and technology and inspires students to participate fully in the learning process.
Provides and maintains a stimulating, safe environment.
Practices thoughtful, respectful, and effective classroom management techniques which support active learning and promote responsibility and self-management.
Supports positive student behavior for all of the Lower School students throughout the school day.
Attends all faculty and community meetings.
Participates fully in the life of the school.
The successful candidate will have earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education or science; a master’s degree is preferred. A passion for science, an ability to develop interesting lessons, a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, cultural competency, a sense of humor, the ability to work cooperatively with peers, and a passion for working with young children are essential. Strong technology skills in G-Suite for education and tools for possible remote teaching preferred.
Salary is competitive with other independent schools in the Pacific Northwest.
