The Academy of the Holy Cross is seeking an innovative full-time Science Teacher who will inspire a love and appreciation for laboratory science in our students beginning in August 2020. The position involves teaching Biology with the potential for other science electives.

The successful candidate will plan student-centered instruction to engage a diverse student population and should enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues and support the development needs of adolescent girls. The candidate will collaborate with department colleagues on pedagogy and curriculum and to vertically align coursework to provide students with a meaningful scope and sequence throughout their Holy Cross experience, and with colleagues across departments to create interdisciplinary learning experiences for students.
The Science Department at the Academy of the Holy Cross encourages students to develop an appreciation of the nature of scientific knowledge and the practice of scientific inquiry, to be curious about the natural world, and to become scientifically literate citizens. We are seeking a candidate who wants to join a collaborative, enthusiastic science and engineering faculty and will strive to bridge students' classroom experiences with opportunities for real-world applications.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
Ability to teach Biology at all levels with the potential for other science electives.
Planning and evaluation of curriculum, course content, and lab materials based on extensive knowledge of subject matter and pedagogy
Self-reflection and commitment to professional learning and growth
Fluency with academic technology that advances learning for students and a willingness to integrate technology into classroom experiences, including familiarity with Google suite and Microsoft Office Suite
Commitment to assign and providing prompt feedback on a variety of assessments and to communicate with students and their parents in a timely fashion
Experience in guiding students through scientific inquiry from crafting research questions to analysis to evaluation and forming arguments
Organization, flexibility, humor, resilience and an engaging teaching style
Ability to share a love of learning and create a rich, dynamic learning environment through varied and differentiated instruction
Attendance at regular department, faculty and other meetings.
EDUCATION: B.A. in Science or related field. Advanced degree preferred
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years teaching, preferably at the high school level
A background in innovative, collaborative and communicative teaching and learning models, authentic assessments in rubrics and critical and creative thinking preferred A familiarity with both differentiated instruction and inclusive pedagogy is also desired
Strong interpersonal, organizational and oral and written communication abilities
Ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing
Ability and willingness to plan and organize materials and lessons
Ability and desire to work effectively with adolescents as well as with adult colleagues
Flexibility in dealing with changing schedules and situations
Must be able to read, think, communicate and write at a high academic and professional level
Must be able to handle, diverse tasks and responsibilities
Must be able to contribute creatively to planning and collaboration
Must be committed to ongoing professional development
Expected and encouraged to become active members of the school community as club moderators, coaches, advisors, and mentors outside of the classroom
