Purpose: This part-time faculty position is an integral part of the Middle School Learning Lab program, a two-year academic support program for fifth and sixth-grade students identified with learning differences and/or attention concerns. Students who continue to need extra assistance in reading fluency and comprehension, written expression, and executive functioning are offered placement in the Learning Lab program. The curriculum includes daily practice in the above academic areas as well as assistance in study and executive functioning skills. Essential Functions:
Promote the best interests of each student in the Middle School Learning Lab program within the context of ESD’s Mission Statement and Founding Tenets
Teach three to four sections of the Middle School Learning Lab as scheduled and assigned by the Division Head.
> Develop solid knowledge of the fifth and sixth-grade curriculum while collaborating with
middle school teachers on areas of greatest need for support.
> Plan curriculum that provides a balance of remediation in reading fluency and
comprehension and written language with support for curricular assignments.
> Provide direct instruction in executive functioning skills, study skills, self-awareness, and self-
Collaborate with Middle School Learning Specialist.
> Review individual accommodation plans (IAP) of Learning Lab students, as developed by the
Middle School Learning Specialist, to fully understand the academic profiles of Lab students
and their respective accommodations.
> Proctor alternative-setting tests when possible.
> Assist with developing and implementing teacher training workshops on learning
Serve as an Advisor in the Middle School
Provide assistive technology support for Lab students, when indicated.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
