St. Gabriel's Catholic School is seeking a Middle School departmentalized middle grades math and science teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.
SGCS is a co-educational Independent Catholic school serving students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade in Austin, Texas. The Middle School is comprised of grades 5-8. SGCS provides an inspiring, challenging, and enriched curriculum that empowers graduates to achieve success in the high schools of their choice. The Middle School curricula for math and science closely aligns with standards as outlined by the Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills, as well as pulls from Common Core, NGSS, and NCTM.technological growth in order to create authentic learning experiences for their students.
Math teachers are expected to inspire students in achieving a deep understanding of the concepts underlying traditional math algorithms through meaningful differentiated instruction in order to develop critical thinking skills. Middle school teachers must also possess excellent oral and written communication skills with both colleagues and the community. In each grade level, young mathematicians use a variety of tools and hands-on methods to explore abstract concepts. Inquiry-based, contextual investigations challenge students and encourage them to apply a variety of approaches to problem-solving. Visual models and mental math exercises strengthen children's number sense, allowing them to flexibly and creatively manipulate numbers along their journey to computational fluency.
The ideal candidate, therefore, has at least three years of teaching experience in math for grades 6-8, has demonstrated a passion for students and the content area. The ideal candidate is either experienced in or willing to develop expertise in, social-emotional learning, project-based learning, STEAM instruction, technology-rich, and differentiated instruction. The ideal candidate also thrives in a collaborative environment designing and delivering innovative and creative cross-curricular instructional units to students with diverse learning styles and needs. St. Gabriel's Middle School implements an Advisory program to focus on and bolster support for each student's social-emotional needs. Included in the candidate's instructional duties is a daily Advisory small group to mentor in meaningful engagement.
