The successful candidate will work primarily with students in our Middle and Intermediate Schools. Responsibilities will include teaching 4th through 8th grade Orchestras, 5th-8th grade Band, and sitting on various faculty committees. Other duties may include coaching a sport, advising Middle School students, sponsoring a student organization, teaching an elective, or supervising break and recess duties.
Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree with a major in Music Education or Music Performance with experience teaching orchestra and/or band. Applicants should have 1-2 years of teaching experience, either in the classroom or in non-traditional educational settings (camps, outdoor centers, etc.). Candidates should be able to demonstrate current knowledge of best practices for music education, both within a classroom and in alternative enrichment/support sessions. Candidates that have sincere proficiency teaching both orchestras and bands are preferred, especially those that can play both a band and a stringed instrument. The candidate should be a team player with ability to contribute and collaborate within the music department of three faculty members. Perhaps most importantly, applicants should have a love of working with children in a warm and collaborative environment.
