St. Gabriel’s Catholic School is seeking a Middle School Religion teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.
SGCS is a co-educational Independent Catholic school serving students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade in Austin, Texas. The Middle School is comprised of grades 5-8. SGCS provides an inspiring, challenging, and enriched curriculum that empowers graduates to achieve success in the high schools of their choice. The Middle School curriculum for Religion is informed by the Diocese of Austin while offering autonomy for the teacher.
Religion teachers at St. Gabriel’s Catholic School serve as role models of the Catholic faith that inspire students to critically think, reflect, and apply their faith concretely to their lives. The animating principle of religion at St. Gabriel’s Catholic School is the ability to find God in all things. Therefore, religion teachers at SGCS empower students to find God in all things while at the same time growing their relationship with God. In Religion, students become deliberate practitioners of virtue, develop an active prayer life, and a rich understanding and appreciation for the Catholic faith. Religion teachers are expected to present the faith in an engaging way that appeals to multiple learning styles and intentionally incorporates project-based learning. The approach to teaching religion at St. Gabriel’s Catholic School both acknowledges and respects the rich diversity of faith traditions in the school community.
The ideal candidate, therefore, has at least three years of teaching experience in Religion in grades 5-8, has demonstrated a passion for students and the content area. The ideal candidate is either experienced in, or willing to develop expertise in, social-emotional learning, project-based learning, technology-rich, and differentiated instruction. The ideal candidate also thrives in a collaborative environment designing and delivering innovative and creative cross-curricular instructional units to students with diverse learning styles and needs. St. Gabriel's Middle School implements an Advisory program to focus on and bolster support for each student's social-emotional needs. Included in the candidate's instructional duties is a daily Advisory small group to mentor in meaningful engagement.
SGCS is a 1:1 laptop school, thus teachers are expected to demonstrate meaningful skill with technology and an enthusiasm for technological growth in order to create authentic learning experiences for their students.
