Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, is searching for a full-time English Teacher for its Middle School for the 2020-21 school year. Calvert School is dedicated to educating girls and boys through its time-tested method of teaching and its rigorous curriculum. Particular emphasis is given to mastering essential skills, inspiring a lifelong love of learning, and instilling enthusiasm, responsibility and self-discipline. Calvert School is located in Tuscany-Canterbury, a residential neighborhood in Baltimore City, just north of Johns Hopkins University and south of Loyola University Maryland, accessible from Charles Street and I-83.
We are seeking qualified candidates who will be responsible for teaching English to Sixth through Eighth Grade students. Calvert students develop strong writing skills through essays, response journals, and poetry. To further develop mastery of essential skills, the curriculum provides regular opportunities for students to apply their knowledge of grammatical structures in their writing.
Teachers at Calvert are also responsible for managing the daily affairs of a classroom including parent communications, teacher collaborations, and other school-based duties and responsibilities. Teachers are expected to contribute to the Calvert community as coaches, club advisors, and serve on school committees on occasion.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s and a background teaching English. Prior experience teaching middle school aged students is preferred. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and must have excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
