Congressional School seeks a full-time Middle School Math and Robotics Teacher for the 2020-2021 academic year. The Middle School Math and Robotics Teacher is responsible for teaching, motivating, inspiring, and assessing middle school students in mathematics and robotics. The Teacher is knowledgeable about the cognitive and social-emotional development of children this age and possesses a firm understanding of advanced mathematics. In addition to the below duties and responsibilities, the Teacher will be positive, collaborative, innovative, and passionate.
Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and assessing a dynamic mathematics and robotics program for middle school students and using a variety of methods, materials, and techniques. The Teacher will assess students’ skills for the purposes of refining classroom activities and providing feedback; and actively seek opportunities for professional development in math, robotics and middle school pedagogy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops, implements, assesses and modifies, as necessary, a dynamic robotics and math program for grades 5 - 8 that aligns with Congressional School’s vision, mission, and values.
Utilizes a hands-on, inquiry-driven approach that maximizes student engagement
Ability to explore and execute technology in the classroom as an instructional tool to enhance learning
Displays a deep understanding of and a passion for math and robotics and their application to the world
Provides information to parents about student performance
Performs divisional responsibilities expected of faculty (for example, supervising students outside of class times, attending faculty meetings, etc.)
Attends school events
Actively supports the School’s vision, mission and core values
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics; preferably a Master’s degree in mathematics, computer science, education, or related field
Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching middle school mathematics, preferably in an independent school
Familiarity with Connected Math and Singapore Math, preferably with experience teaching Singapore Math
Experience in computer science, coding and robotics
Ability to teach up to Algebra 2 / Trigonometry
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child development and educational practices
Strong initiative and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
An ability to work in a joyful, collegial and collaborative environment
A sense of humor, warm personality, and growth mindset
