Starting September 2020: Dorm Parent for a small group of students at a rural barding school
Live with about four to six dynamic boys (upper elementary through low high school) in a family-style dorm of a small, rural boarding school. Teach extra-curricular activities after school and on weekends in areas such as the arts, nature, exercise, film making, photography, or other areas. Create a welcoming and clean home space and foster social and emotional growth. This position is ideal for students training to be teachers who want to learn more about alternative education and students with high learning needs.
The dorm parent's job is to create a friendly, family-like environment through active participation in the dorm, including, for instance, helping students wake up and complete morning chores before breakfast, eating morning and evening meals with students, teaching electives and activities after school and on weekends, supervising evening study, encouraging outdoor play, and participating actively in the life of the school.
Experience with children, preferably in a residential setting such as a summer camp or boarding school is preferred.
Light-hearted character and the desire to work with students who are bright, active, and challenging at times. The ability to see the best in others, as well as to be confident in the face of challenges, humble, and an active-problem solver. Being able to forgive mistakes and start again is essential to our program.
Candidates should enjoy outdoor activities, appreciate our natural campus of 1800 acres, and have the desire to instill the love for the natural world into the students.
Teacher training and/or experience preferred. All faculty lives on property.
Additional Salary Information: Salary, plus housing and utilities, health insurance, and other benefits. Continued Education funds including possibility to receive a 3 year scholarship towards a graduate degree.
