Roycemore School seeks a Lower School Learning Specialist Teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. Now entering its 105th year, Roycemore is a highly regarded, co-educational independent school for students from 3 years old through 12th grade. Located in Evanston, Illinois, on the north side of Chicago, Roycemore enjoys a long-standing relationship with Northwestern University including the Northwestern option, where high school students can choose to take college courses at the University as dual-enrolled students for no additional charge.

We are currently seeking an experienced Lower School Learning Specialist Teacher for the 2020-21 school year. This person will be working with children from Kindergarten through Fourth Grade.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Identifies, monitors, and remediates students who learn differently
Conducts informal screenings and assessments
Works with Grade Level teachers to ensure optimal learning of students being served. This includes assisting with implementation of models of differentiated instruction which provide specialized, small-group instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics
Works with students who qualify for support in reading, writing, and mathematics by creating a plan while progress monitoring to ensure targeted goals are being met (push-in/pull-out, 1:1/small group)
Works with faculty, parents, and private contractors on behalf of students who require specialized academic instruction
Works with the Student Support Team at Roycemore, especially during the transition to Middle School, for students who have Individualized Learning Plans and/or students for whom faculty have growing concerns
Supports Admissions by occasionally reading incoming student evaluations when asked
Offers occasional faculty and parent educational programs or training
Establishes and maintains frequent communication with parents about their child’s academic, social and emotional, progress and needs. This includes Progress Reports, phone calls, and emails
Makes recommendations for home interventions
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Reading, Special Education; (M.A. in Education preferred with a special education endorsement or a M.Ed in Special Education)
Possess a math aptitude
Demonstrate understanding of early intervention, RTI, assessments, acquisition of reading, and be current on the general teaching of reading, writing, and mathematics
Trained and certified in multi-sensory approaches to reading interventions such as SLANT, Wilson Language Program, Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Program; and background with the Lucy Calkins Reading and Writing programs
Working knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Act, including Individual Education Plans, 504 plans, etc.

Ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills as well as a proven ability to work with a diversity of colleagues and stakeholders at all levels
Enthusiasm for professional development
Enthusiasm for embracing the independent school model of mentoring, advising and supporting students outside the classroom
Embraces authentic assessment, innovative pedagogies, and project-based learning
Working knowledge of Windows and/or Macintosh operating systems
Experience with G-Suite/Google Apps for Education (preferred)
Comfortable using online texts, iPads, student information system, and other computer systems
Able to use basic office equipment
