Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences seeks a dynamic educator to join its innovative upper school English department beginning in the 2020-2021 school year to teach one section of English 4 (senior English).
The English curriculum seeks to instill in students a lifelong love and appreciation of reading, and to teach students to write English that—beyond mere correctness—fluently communicates deeper meanings and values. English teachers offer students the opportunity to study both traditional forms of argument and literary criticism as well as more creative forms of expression, such as personal essays, poems, short stories, journal entries, and interviews.
The English 4 (Senior English Seminar) serves as a capstone English course for seniors. The course offers seniors a choice of interest as well as a shared Senior experience. For the first two trimesters, students explore, analyze, and write about record albums as a genre of literature. In the final trimester, students explore one or two ‘great books,’ which as a class they select, and the teacher serves as a guide. This final trimester provides seniors with the opportunity to study a book or two of their choosing before they complete their school career.
