Baker Demonstration School, an independent progressive PK-8 school on Chicago’s North Shore, is seeking an exemplary Primary grade teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. We value candidates who are passionate about progressive education, have a love of children, and are innovative and knowledgeable about experiential learning. We place a high value on community and seek candidates who have excellent interpersonal skills who will work well with students, colleagues, and parents. A full time teaching position includes curriculum development, participation in all professional development meetings, collaboration with colleagues, and additional responsibilities throughout the year that require attendance at evening and weekend school events.
Experience teaching young primary grade levels
Four year degree in Elementary Education or related field
Knowledge and experience with progressive education philosophy and a constructivist pedagogical approach
Ability to create and manifest differentiated, innovative curricula
Expertise in developing an engaging, collaborative classroom community that encourages problem solving, critical thinking skills, and service learning
A deep commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community for children and adults, based on cultural competence, social justice, and respect for diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
Capacity to address the developmental needs of academically motivated elementary school students
Passion and skill to contribute positively to an educational environment that supports a lifelong love of learning, self-esteem, and respect for the community and the world in which we live
Experience with utilizing innovative technology to support student learning in-person and virtually
