Harbor Day School is seeking an elementary science teacher for grades K-3 who will also assist in other areas of the campus. The successful candidate will have a solid background in general science, experience using a variety of assessment techniques, strong instructional and classroom-management skills and experience collaborating closely with colleagues and parents. This candidate should demonstrate strong distance learning skills through computer proficiency, teaching aptitudes, communication, reliability, and attention to detail.

Have a strong interest and background in Science and STEAM
Demonstrate effective collaboration and communication skills
Teaching Credential and/or Master’s Degree with a minimum of three to five years of classroom teaching experience.
Strong technology skills and comfort with acquiring new skills sufficient to teach students in the classroom as well as to maintain records and communications.
Develop and teach K-3rd Grade science curriculum in line with Harbor Day’s goals and Mission Statement
Design age-appropriate, inquiry-based lessons aligned with Next Generation Science Standards that are hands-on and concept-based
Implement classroom management strategies to promote positive student behavior
Differentiate instruction to support group and individual learning, and provide extra support and enrichment as needed
Facilitate collaboration among students during small group and partner projects
Maintain an ongoing curriculum map for Lower School Science
Collaborate with classroom and specialty teachers to integrate Science curriculum
Engage students through distance learning, as needed, to provide course content, answering student inquiries, monitoring progress, updating records, and grading assignments and tests
Attend regular department meetings, as well as faculty meetings, professional development days, and grade-level team meetings as needed
Track and assess student progress and communicate that progress with classroom teachers and parents
Provide information on individual student progress on twice-yearly report cards
Plan and coordinate content aligned field trips and attend trips as needed
Organize and maintain laboratory and materials
Prepare the classroom in advance for laboratory activities
Perform assigned, ongoing scheduled responsibilities with care (recess and lunch duty, dismissal, etc.)
Maintain professionalism, positivity, and good humor in the face of challenges and change
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Division Director
