Marin Horizon School (Mill Valley, CA) is a progressive, toddler – 8th grade school of about 300 students. The inquiry-based curriculum focuses heavily on hands-on, collaborative learning in order to develop students’ academic and social-emotional skills. The school views character education and self-advocacy as integral to growth in and out of the classroom and acknowledges diversity, equity, and inclusion as necessary elements of a strong community.
We are looking for a dynamic Associate Teacher who demonstrates a desire to support the lead 3rd grade teacher in planning and implementing curriculum while also developing their own pedagogical skills through planning and teaching. In addition to experience working with lower elementary school students, the ideal candidate has completed or is working toward completing a multiple-subject teaching credential, with a goal of becoming a lead teacher in the near future.
Collaborate with lead teacher in planning and implementation of curriculum, including Readers/Writers Workshop, Math in Focus, and Responsive Classroom
Demonstrate a desire to plan and lead lessons and units independently
Support classroom management and maintain a safe, inclusive environment for all learners
Participate in activities including Back to School Night, parent conferences, and an overnight trip (where and when allowable by health and safety guidelines)
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in related field; Multiple-subject credential preferred
1-5 years teaching experience in lower elementary school
Demonstrated commitment to culturally inclusive teaching practices
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
Knowledge of Responsive Classroom and/or Readers/Writers Workshop preferred
Must possess a collaborative, growth mindset intent on refining teaching practices as well as a desire to work with and learn from adults and students alike
