We are looking for an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher who is curious about the nature of learning and teaching, and seeks a co-researcher relationship with students, colleagues, and parents.
The Early Childhood Assistant Teacher and Lead Teacher spend each day in the Reggio-inspired classroom facilitating inquiry approaches to learning that provoke thought and encourage playful discovery. He or she participates in supporting the lead teacher in providing extensive documentation and regular reflection upon practice. The Assistant Teacher is expected to participate in all activities of the school year, parent conferences, professional development, social events, special projects, field trips, and class celebrations. Together with the Lead Teacher, the Assistant Teacher plays an active role in setting and maintaining the physical environment of the classroom, including August set-up and June breakdown weeks.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Teacher
Works collaboratively with the Lead Teacher to ensure a Reggio inspired, child-centered, play-based environment
Supports the Program for Young Children’s students in all aspects of the school day
Monitors and supports student progress
Engages professionally with grade level and divisional colleagues
Actively supports the St. Anne’s School of Annapolis mission
Supports diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice work
Accompanies the Lead Teacher on Home Visits in August (Annapolis Twos)
Participates in Arrival and Dismissal duties daily
Assists the Lead Teacher in maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and safety of the classroom (sweeps, wipes tables, washes art materials and dishes, returns used materials to proper places, etc.)
Assists Lead Teacher with clerical or office tasks (laminating, copying, bulletin boards, etc.) as assigned
Assumes the role of Lead Teacher in the Lead Teacher’s absence
