Northaven Cooperative Preschool Teacher Job Description - Young 2s & 2/3s class

Northaven Cooperative Preschool (the Co-op), located in the heart of Dallas, Texas, is seeking a part-time Teacher for our Young 2s and 2s/3s class for the 2020-2021 school year. All teachers and employees support our mission of providing a quality preschool which nurtures the development of the whole child and provides parents the opportunity to participate directly in the education of their young children. The Teacher reports to the Director of the Co-op and the Personnel Chair of the Co-op Board of Directors.

The classroom schedule for the Young 2s class is Monday and Tuesday 9:15 AM - 12:00 PM, as well as the 2s/3s  class schedule is Wednesday and Thursday 9:15 AM - 12:00 PM. The school year tentatively will begin at the end of August 2020 and end at the end of May 2021. The Teacher will need to arrive in time to prepare the classroom and be ready to greet the children upon arrival. The Teacher is expected to stay after as needed for tidying the classroom and lesson preparation. The Teacher will attend staff meetings on specified Wednesdays after class hours. The Teacher is expected to attend occasional afternoon, evening, and weekend meetings and events; such as orientations, fundraisers, and teacher training.

Responsibilities Educating and Teaching

• Create a classroom environment and curriculum utilizing teaching strategies

• Create a classroom environment and curriculum utilizing teaching strategies in compliance with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation criteria
• Implement play-based, experience-rich, developmentally-appropriate individual and social learning opportunities in the classroom
• Advocate for play-based education in and outside of the classroom
• Provide sensory experiences for open-ended exploration and discovery in both the physical and social worlds

Classroom Administration

• Assume responsibility for the daily operation of the classroom in compliance with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Minimum Standards and NAEYC Accreditation criteria
• Schedule and complete home visits to student homes before the first day of classes
• Create the parent co-oping schedule for the class for the year
• Communicate regularly with parents individually and as a group regarding classroom activities
• Schedule formal conferences with parents twice annually
• Provide parents with a Co-op parent responsibilities checklist and provide guidance to parents regarding how to best most effective while co-oping in the classroom
• Maintain professionalism and use good confidentiality practices in all facets of your role at the Co-op

Community Role

• Work cooperatively with parents, fellow teachers, and the Director to support a safe, experience-rich environment in which children can grow
• Share questions, ideas, expertise, and support with fellow Co-op teachers
• Collaborate with staff on supply and equipment needs
• Attend the Co-op's Carnival, Auction, Grand Day, Story Night and other events that help foster connection within our Co-op community
• Promote and support the Co-op's mission, purpose, and core educational goals through all levels of interaction in the school - with children, parents, fellow teachers and staff, and Northaven United Methodist Church

Personal Growth and Learning

• Remain current and informed on issues, trends, and research in early childhood education
• Stay familiar with NAEYC publications and standards
• Encourage and seek opportunities for team building and staff collaboration
• Engage in training opportunities provided by the Co-op (or outside training opportunities) to ensure completion of required number of outside training hours annually
