We are seeking an experienced and innovative 5th/6th grade mathematics teacher. This person will also teach one section of Global Culture History. We seek someone who has a deep appreciation for, and understanding of, upper elementary students. Teachers are responsible for implementing a high-quality, engaging academic program that supports the intellectual and social/emotional development of each child. The curriculum emphasizes a project-based, hands-on approach in which children learn to think critically and creatively. We are looking for candidates who have a mathematics background and a solid understanding of the academic, social and emotional development of upper elementary students. The core responsibilities for this position include daily instruction and management of the classroom and the following duties:
-Collaborating with colleagues in designing and managing the math curriculum -Guiding and supporting student learning, differentiating appropriately -Regularly assessing the progress of each student to plan and support student growth and development -Writing clear and concise progress reports to communicate students’ progress and learning needs to parents and students
-Attending all faculty meetings and other school events, including exhibition evenings
-Attending overnight outdoor education trips with upper elementary classes
-Participating in professional development activities, both internal (led by directors, teachers, and visiting lecturers) and external (attending conferences, workshops, etc.)
The ideal candidate will have: -A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
-Minimum of three years of teaching experience -Experience with and passion for pedagogical practices grounded in hands-on, project-based learning and in creating appropriate standards-based curriculum in accordance with these philosophies -Experience developing interdisciplinary units and lessons using various curriculum development tools (Backwards Design, Understanding by Design, etc.) -Experience creating and maintaining caring classroom environments where instructional time is dedicated to subject based-learning and exploration, community-building, conflict resolution, and empowering students to be agents for positive social and environmental change -Excellent communication/interpersonal skills as well as a desire to collaborate with all K-12 faculty and staff, students, and families to help maintain a positive whole school community -High level of professionalism, positive attitude, and a strong work ethic
