The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the golf course superintendent. Under the superintendent's supervision, the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment, and does related work as required. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.
Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, and fairways; schedules work and manage the employees.
Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing equipment; supervises pesticide applications, operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the maintenance and operation of the irrigation system, and the maintenance and installation of drainage systems.
Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline, and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
The Assistant Superintendent Oversees the completion of work assignments by crew members and assists with field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards, and machinery use.
Enforce safe working conditions with all job assignments and is responsible for instructing staff on proper equipment use and work methods.
Supervise special projects and labor crews.
Manage the building maintenance program and improvement projects.
Reports golf course conditions and all disciplinary problems to the golf course superintendent.
Perform routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment.
Manage the maintenance of the chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state, and federal regulations.
Opens the maintenance facility and runs operations in the absence of the golf course superintendent.
Communicates with and notifies pro-shop clubhouse staff to the specific conditions of the golf course as needed.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Train personnel in the proper procedures necessary in the operation of all maintenance equipment.
Along with the superintendent, prepare maintenance work lists as they relate to both short and long term goals.
Assist in the scheduling, supervision, and completion of daily maintenance work.
Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the irrigation system.
Repair greens with seeds or plugs of new grass when needed.
Monitor moisture levels in greens, tees, and fairways.
Report any irregularities in course turf quality to the superintendent.
May be required to work during periods of inclement weather.
Have a working knowledge of the basic maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs, and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods.
Have the desire to schedule and supervise maintenance, prepare clear and concise reports, and maintain effective employee and relations.
Have the ability to obtain or currently possess a Certified Pesticide Applicator License.

About Lake Forest Country Club
Lake Forest Country Club is an 18 hole facility established in 1930. In 2018 Lake Forest completed the first of a three phase renovation. The objectives of the renovation are to upgrade the infrastructure, renovate playing surfaces, accomodate all ability levels, and restore as much as possible of the Tom Bendelow designed course. The first phase included the removal of over 1200 trees, the installation of a state of the art irrigation system, fairway expansions, cart path relocation, new tee boxes and, new fairway bunkers. Phases two and three include the remaining tee boxes, additional cartpath relocation, drainage and green expansion/reconstruction, green side bunker reconstruction and beautification.
Lake Forest has seen substantial growth in membership in recent years and is agressivly planning for the future.
