For a position to begin in the fall of 2020, Austin Prep seeks an energetic, fluent Spanish Teacher whose passion for Spanish language and culture – both in Spain and beyond to include the rich diversity found throughout the world – will ignite that same love of learning in students. The school is looking for a practiced instructor who will work with students from the introductory to AP level in building linguistic fluency and appreciation of world culture as part of the school’s commitment to developing students into global scholar-citizens.
A coeducational institution since 1993, Austin Prep now serves 750 students in grades 6 through 12 from Reading, MA, and neighboring communities Northeast of Boston. The Middle School currently enrolls 170 students. The Upper School enrolls 580 ninth through twelfth graders in a rigorous college preparatory program that guides its students toward becoming lifelong learners and engaged citizens.
WORLD LANGAGE AT AUSTIN: In order to engage with the world, students must be able to communicate effectively with its people through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Learning another language provides students with a new appreciation of another cultural heritage. Introductory through Advanced Placement courses provide students with a sequence to grow in fluency in the core domains of linguistic studies: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Austin Prep’s menu of four different World Languages to study – French, Latin, Mandarin, and Spanish – creates a dynamic learning environment that emphasizes practicing language in context and learning about others.
WHO SHOULD APPLY? The World Language Department seeks an experienced educator with at least three years of classroom experience who is fluent in Spanish and a practiced master of pedagogy. The position calls for a mission-driven educator with experience in immersing students in the four domains of language fluency and who innovates opportunities for students to apply their classroom learning.
