The Baldwin School is seeking a full-time Middle and Upper School Classics teacher who is qualified to teach four to five sections from grades 6– 12. He or she will be expected to contribute to advising and co-curricular programs, to engage in those duties typical of independent day school life, and to support the school’s mission. Successful candidates will understand the importance of middle school as a key developmental moment in girls’ lives, and have an appreciation for and understanding of girls’ education.
We seek candidates interested in working collaboratively on innovative curriculum design and development. In addition to the ability to teach Latin, to engage students positively, and to interact productively with colleagues and parents, the successful candidate will have a strong facility in developing students’ ability to express themselves in speech and writing with clarity and precision usingrelevant technology.
Introduce students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade to the language and culture of the Romans, and guide upper school students in reading advanced literature
Work with other grade-level teachers to build cross-curricular connections
Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and a commitment to growth for yourself and your students
Actively pursue professional development in the teaching of foreign language, teaching with technology and/or teaching in interdisciplinary project-based approaches
In partnership with the department chair, develop appropriate curriculum and lessons to prepare middle school students for upper school language classes
Serve as an advisor, club leader, chaperone, or other co-curricular leader in support of the middle school
Other duties as assigned
B.A. in a relevant subject area, M.A. preferred
3-5 years of teaching experience preferred
Effective communication skills
Creative, energetic, and positive approach to teaching
Strong understanding of teaching with a variety of technological tools
