The music teacher is responsible for all aspects of creating a dynamic learning environment for students in the music classes. A Roycemore teacher develops lifelong learners who will excel in their academic, professional and personal lives.
Provides music instruction to students in first through twelfth grade, music director, choir director, stage director and choreographer of musicals and Variety Show. Accompanist experience preferred for smaller concerts.
Integrates class piano into grades 1-8, while individualizing instruction for different skill levels.
Designs and plans child-centered, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate music curriculum and assessments that include songs, movement, games, listening, and rhythmic work
Teaches Music Theory, AP Music Theory, Class Piano and Music Composition to Upper School students, while individualizing instruction for different skill levels.
Prepares lessons, activities and observes in order to evaluate student’s progress
Implements age-appropriate lessons that introduce students to diverse and multicultural aspects of music
Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects
Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet student’s varying needs and interests
Instructs students in large and small groups and individually, using various teaching methods
Collaborates with teachers and division heads on grade level projects and community performances
Writes narrative progress reports on students and provides “grades” for effort and conduct
Collaborates with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation and revision of the school’s music education program
Communicates with families, returns phone calls, writes weekly blog/ social media, and emails and notes in a timely manner
Develops and maintains a professional growth plan
Participates fully in the life of the school community (i.e. attends theatre productions and games, teaches after school, helps out with Open Houses)
Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development
Performs other duties as assigned
A minimum of three years of experience teaching music to elementary-high school aged students, preferably in an independent school environment
Ability to develop and design curriculum and lesson plans
Excellence in classroom management techniques
Outstanding ability to collaborate with colleagues

Ability to maintain confidentiality
Excellent verbal, written and observational skills
Demonstrates patience, good listening skills, and the ability to multi-task

Experience with G-Suite (Google Apps) for Education (preferred)

Comfortable using Learning Management System, and computer systems
