This position is a full-time, 10-month, faculty position, reporting to the Head of the Upper School.
Teach multiple sections of middle and upper school language arts utilizing research-based best practices in teaching and learning
Plan and implement effective student-centered lessons and units
Use a variety of assessments to measure student learning and drive instruction
Create a positive and safe classroom culture and community utilizing best practices in social emotional learning and culturally responsive teaching
Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff members
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in language arts education including project-based learning, equitable grading practices, and culturally responsive teaching
Demonstrated ability to be resilient, mission-driven, and proactive in creating and implementing an innovative and research-based language arts curriculum
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with students, teachers, administrators, and families
Demonstrated knowledge of best pracitces in blended learning
Creative and innovative
Reliable and trustworthy
Adaptable and comfortable with change
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (Master’s preferred)
Preferred: Degree focusing on middle and upper grades education
Demonstrated experience/expertise in middle and upper school teaching and learning
Preferred: Three or more years of experience as a lead teacher with early middle or upper school students
Extensive knowledge of best practices in early learning and the academic, social, and emotional development of adolescent children
School environment including indoor and outdoor activities
Read handwritten documents and other records or reports
Exchange information in person, by computer, or on the telephone
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
Some light lifting, carrying, bending
Mobility to ensure supervision of students both in and outside of the building, including on playground equipment and on field trips
