The Well School (www.wellschool.org) has been an innovative leader among elementary schools in the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire for over 50 years. The Well School is looking to hire an enthusiastic lead Preschool Teacher. This position will start in late August, September 2nd is the first day of school. The right person will be nurturing, energetic, creative, and a team player, and he/she will have a love for nature and for supporting the whole child.
The Preschool Teacher reports directly to the Head of School. This position is responsible for collaborating with other teachers, staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; and other related responsibilities.
The Preschool Teacher will seek to model the school’s philosophy, which focuses on the education of the whole child with an emphasis on promoting each child’s self-esteem and social development. The Preschool Teacher will prepare classroom curriculum materials, implement circle time, and engage children in learning center activities. The Preschool Teacher will take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities, and keep accurate records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Report to work by 7:45 a.m., Monday through Friday, and leave by 3:30 p.m.
Attend and help facilitate five Saturday school days throughout the academic year
In a classroom of 15 students, create a developmentally appropriate, positive, caring, and inclusive environment that cultivates motivation and enthusiasm for and growth in learning
Collaborate with Specials teachers (Art, Spanish, and Music)
Monitor and engage with students in a variety of activities and educational settings (e.g. classroom, playground, lunch time, etc.) and ensure safety at all times
Handle social, emotional, and behavioral issues as they arise
Demonstrate courtesy, compassion, and respect in relating to children, families, visitors, and coworkers
Report safety and wellness incidents to maintain students’ personal safety and adhere to state laws
Implement classroom curriculum, learning centers, and activities
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment
Ensure the classroom is aesthetically attractive so that students enjoy their surroundings while learning
Plan lessons and daily activities based on the principles of child development
Ensure development of positive relationships with children
Observe each child to assist in assessing skills, interests, and needs, and use this information to facilitate individual learning and growth
Record any crucial observations regarding student development
Responsible for evaluation and creating reports
Provide comfort to distressed children through compassion and tact
A minimum of ECE credits or an Associate’s degree in elementary school or early childhood education, bachelors preferred
Outstanding organizational skills
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach
Excellent oral and written communication skills
High-energy and enthusiastic about working as a member of the preschool team
Must be able to participate in a physically active program
