Falk School, a coeducational K-8 laboratory school affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh School of Education is seeking three full-time educator beginning August 2020. The review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
The Distance Learning / Assistant Teacher position will provide critical support for teachers, students, and families in response to the changing needs of the school. This position calls for an individual who can respond to the changing needs of the school creatively and professionally, with guidance from classroom teachers and school administration.
Masters degree in Education is preferred. Candidates should have successful teaching experience in a K-8 classroom. The teacher must exhibit an authentic passion and enthusiasm for Progressive education.
Day-to-day job duties will be determined by the Assistant Director or their designee, as they may vary depending upon the changing needs of the classroom(s), student(s), and schools.
Reports to the office upon arrival for check-in with your Assistant Director to assess the needs of the day.
Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about student and school personnel.
Coordinates distance learning for students who are unable to attend in-person school. Ensures that the curriculum can be accessed appropriately by those students and their families. Collaborates with classroom teachers to ensure on-line learning for remote students is in line with grade level learning goals.
Manages instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students according to teachers' lesson plans when providing in-person coverage.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Additional duties as required in the areas of Distance Learning & Teaching.
Exhibits proficiency with school technology including, but not limited to, Canvas (online Learning Management System), Google Classroom, and Microsoft 365.
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Moderate lifting/moving of various items from 15-30 pounds.
Familiarity on use of office equipment.
Work is performed in all areas of the school, grounds, and/or any area in which a school activity or function is taking place, includes field trips, work-based learning, etc.
Exposed to varying degrees of temperature relative to the conditions occurring in nature outside.
Other duties may be required that are not enumerated here that are part of the classroom teacher's curriculum or duties.
