University Child Development Center (UCDC) is a campus-based child-care center serving the University of Missouri-St. Louis and surrounding communities.The purposes of the Center are to provide high quality programming for children and their parents; staff development and teacher training; and a site for child study/research. Our teaching roles are ideal for someone who: Enjoys working with children, dependable, flexible, detail oriented, effective communicator and team-oriented.
The Center, located in Room 130 South Campus Classroom Building at the University of Missouri-St. Louis South Campus, 7800 Natural Bridge, provides full and half-day care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age (or before a child attends kindergarten). Starting in Spring 2019, the Center will also offer evening care to fully potty trained children ages three to eleven.
Manage and oversee childcare room(s) to ensure a supportive environment and ensure a safe and healthy, and environment including meeting strict hygienic and safety expectations for facility. Provide daily care including proper food and beverage consumption, rest periods, and play time.
Plan, prepare, implement and evaluate curriculum activities that foster and encourage development of age appropriate skills.
Develop individual learning goals with each child and work with them towards mastery of skills.
Conduct developmental assessments for each child, including identifying concerns in behavior or development.
Conduct parent's conferences and maintain ongoing parent communication, education, and relations on a regular basis.
Provide leadership, training, and performance appraisals for part-time staff.
Uses positive reinforcement and encouragement to develop children's communication skills, promote sharing, build self-esteem, and foster children's ability to express themselves.
Reads, sings, and plays with children during various indoor and outdoor activities.
Maintains clean and safe environment
Assists teacher in the supervision and implementation of developmental instructional activities
Provides health and safety maintenance by assisting students with toileting, diapering, washing hands, brushing teeth, tying shoes, and properly wearing backpacks and jackets.
Assists with meals by arranging and serving pre-prepared food
Collects and tracks information, including attendance, sign-in sheets, meal counts, and student counts before and after outdoor activities.
Assists Teacher in monitoring, evaluating, and assessing the progress and developmental levels of children through observation and basic documentation.
Performs various clerical duties
Performs other related duties as required
An Associate's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and some experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Early Child Development knowledge and experience 2 years of teaching experience in an Early Childhood program with infants, toddlers and preschoolers preferred.
High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience and some experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications: 1 year experience; college course work in Early Childhood Education preferred
Job title and salary will be determined based on the candidate qualifications.
