Friends Seminary is an independent Quaker school educating students in grades K-12 in New York City since 1786. The Lower School is seeking a creative, organized, team player to serve as a one-year Lower School Associate Teacher for the 2020-2021 academic year.
A Lower School Associate Teacher (AT) at Friends collaborates with the lead teacher in planning curriculum and reviewing lesson plans. AT’s prepare and study the materials being taught in order to be knowledgeable of lesson objectives. The AT works with the lead teacher to support student learning through whole class, small group or individualized instruction, and works in conjunction with the lead teacher to maintain a positive classroom learning environment to support the academic, emotional, and social development of students.
The ideal candidate will possess the skill set to pivot nimbly to and from virtual and in person learning. Associate Teachers:
Attend faculty meetings, Grade Level meetings and all required events.
Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to the position.
Attend specialized meetings to support their professional growth and development.
Report directly to the Assistant Head of Lower School.

Experience guiding elementary school aged children in a school setting.
Some proficiency with Spanish language is a plus.
Experience with educational technology including, but not limited to learning management systems, browser based tools and Google Suite applications.
Bachelor's Degree required, Masters preferred.
