Friends Select's Middle School seeks two assistant teachers to support 5th-grade teachers, starting in September 2020. This position involves assisting the lead teachers in teaching core subjects, managing student behavior, supporting learners individually and in small groups, and attending to the many logistics and details key in running an effective classroom where children thrive. The full-time assistant position also involves collaborating with colleagues and administrators, responsibilities might include teaching in-person or delivering content online, supervising students when another teacher is out of class, monitoring a class while a teacher instructs remotely, performing various middle school duties such as recess and lunch, participating in committee work, actively supporting our Quaker philosophy, and participating fully in the life of the school.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
a bachelor's degree (ideally in education)
experience teaching middle school-aged children
passion for teaching adolescents
interest in continued professional development
a strong commitment to equity and social justice
