Stevens Cooperative School is seeking a self-motivated professional with strong organizational skills to fill our Head Community Teacher position. The best candidates are those who have a proven track record of educational success, behavior management expertise, with experience in a supervisory role. They have a bachelor's degree and enjoy working with children. Candidates are flexible and have some experience managing and scheduling shifts for their direct reports.
They will work closely with the Principals and Early Childhood Director to arrange coverage for absent teachers in all 4 buildings at both the Hoboken and Jersey City campuses. In addition to coordinating coverage schedules, the Head Community Teacher will participate in a combination of working in the classroom and conducting virtual remote learning sessions. They would be part of our mentoring model that fosters an understanding of our school’s mission and culture, and continues to prepare our community teachers to develop marketable skills in the independent school landscape. It is important for candidates to be open to receiving feedback from pedagogical staff in order to best meet the needs of students. Working well with others in a small community and instilling confidence in the program with parents is required.
Work closely with the school Leadership Team to identify scheduling needs and put plans together that place appropriate adult supervision into classrooms requiring substitute teacher coverage.
Organize and maintain detailed schedules and clear communication with the substitute teachers who you will be assigning to classrooms.
Collaborate with the Business Office to log hours and days worked for substitute teachers to precisely reflect their wages.
Work closely with head teachers to ensure lesson plans are clear and actionable for substitute teachers who will be taking on those classes.
Implement lesson plans and collaborate on all classroom duties, and conduct virtual learning or in person sessions with students.
Screen and interview candidates who apply for the substitute teacher pool to make sure the available roster has enough people to satisfy the coverage needs of the school.
Curate all documents that substitute teachers will require in their training and onboarding process.
Follow teacher lesson plans and and implement remote learning plans, while adjusting for the needs of the group.
Assess and maintain written records of individual student development, as requested by the head teacher.
Communicate with colleagues around student issues and needs.
Participate in the life of the school and be responsible for other duties as assigned by the Principals and Early Childhood Director.
Interact effectively and sensitively with a diverse population of students and faculty/staff.
