Milton Academy, established in 1798, is an independent, coeducational, national boarding and day school, serving 1,000 students in grades K–12 on a 125-acre campus eight miles south of Boston.
Milton Academy seeks a Lower School Classroom Co-teacher for the 2020-21 school year. In addition to outstanding teaching ability, we seek a teacher who is inquisitive, self-directed, team- oriented, and dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
This school year, Milton’s Lower School students will have the benefit of two full-time lead teachers in each classroom - one teacher with primary experience in math and literacy teaching, and one teacher with primary experience in one or more other subject areas. For this particular position, we are seeking the latter. The two teachers will work closely throughout each day in a co-teaching format to support student learning. Applicants should be energized by the prospect of this format.
Solid understanding of the developmental needs of lower school students (K-5)
Significant content knowledge in one or more special subject area(s)
Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience partnering with parents and guardians to support children’s learning
Experience engaging with and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion work in a school or other institutional setting
Experience integrating technology skills into learning environments
A reflective learning stance as a professional
Additional preferred qualities:
Familiarity with student-centered pedagogy, such as interdisciplinary projects and emergent design
Experience with the teaching of math and literacy
Experience with co-teaching formats
Experience with online teaching in an Elementary setting
Fluency in Spanish
