Thayer Academy seeks qualified middle school substitute teachers for the 2020-2021 academic year to provide coverage for expected long-term family leave and unexpected faculty absences. Primary responsibilities include providing a consistent and optimal learning environment for students in the primary teacher’s absence. Additional responsibilities include offering daily sports or electives and covering advisories, as needed.
For full time hires this would be a full-time exempt position with typical hours of 7:45 a.m. until 3:15 p.m., Monday through Friday, although some extended hours may be required.
We will also be hiring per diem substitutes.

The ideal candidate will possess a love of the middle-school-aged child, be a team player who can work collaboratively with colleagues, and have 1-3 years teaching or coaching experience at the middle school level. A bachelor’s degree is required, and a master’s degree is preferred.
In addition, the candidate should demonstrate:
Joy working with 5th-8th graders and an understanding of child development for this age group
Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community
Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and the impact they have on the classroom climate and curriculum
High levels of comfort and experience with technology
Excellent writing skills
Ability to collaborate with colleagues
Ability to communicate effectively with students and families
Curriculum design and assessment experience
English, Math, and Latin teaching experience a plus
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Ability to lift/move 10 lbs. and occasionally lift/move 30 lbs.
Specific vision abilities include close vision.
Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms.
